Thomas Vallance Wran was born in England to a prestige family. He married a woman called Eleanor (last name unknown) and had a daughter called Eleanor who during the war became deaf and dumb from the constant bombing raids. She drowned in Queensland at the Wran Estate. Thomas and Eleanor’s other child was Harry Walton Wran.
The Wran family were renowned Stone Masons. Thomas and his brother were requested to come to Australia to carve the sandstone lions and pillars of Sydney Post Office and the Sydney Town Hall. Thomas returned to England with his wife and granddaughter to visit the English Wrans. When they were returning to Australia Thomas died on board the RMS Victoria on the 7th of September 1895. He is buried at Aden, Arabia.
Harry Walton was born in 1848 and came to Australia with his parents and uncle. Harry did not go back to England (where we believe he was born) and instead married a woman called Susan Jane Cook (b. 1853). Susan was a cook, trained in France and brought out to Australia as a personal request by Sir Henry Parkes. Susan and Harry were married in 1873 at Sydney. They lived all their lives in Balmain where Thomas V. Wran owned his estate. Since Susan was a cook, the Wran family disowned Harry for marrying below his station. Together they had six children: Thomas (d. 1957 Sydney), Eleanor S (b. 1876 Balmain d. 1877), Harry B (b. 1877 Balmain d.1878), George (b. 1879 Balmain), Joseph (b. 1880). Their last child (my great grandmother) was the reason Harry was welcomed back into the family. Her name was Louisa Isabella and she was the first Wran girl born in a very long time. Harry passed away in Balmain 1914 and Susan died in 1925 in Balmain.
Louisa Isabella was born in 1881 in Balmain. She married Louis Oliver Gundry in 1898 at Sydney. She passed away in 1932 in Sydney. (See Gundry section for her children.)
